Stoney Rise

Beautifully positioned overlooking the Tamar River, our cellar door and winery is only a 25 minute meander north of Launceston. It is there they dedicate their time to producing some of Tasmania's best pinot noir and chardonnay. Joe and his wife Lou purchased the vineyard in the gorgeous Tamar Valley in 2004 after visiting the site in 2003. Joe's family has been involved in growing grapes in Tasmania since 1984 and he has worked in various facets of the wine industry. From "waiting on tables to buying wine for The Wine Society's 50,000 Australian members." His wife's, Lou, experience began working hands on in vineyards, before seeking the comforts of the office and cellar door for a couple of South Australian wineries. Together they make up the incredible team at Stoney Rise and have been going from strength to strength since 2004. "Love the Holyman Chardonnay. One of my top producers in Australia." Gary Walsh "Gravelly Beach winemaker Joe Holyman is a very funny man, but he's deadly serious about the quality of his wines." Winsor Dobbin "One of the most impressive wines of the tasting was the 2012 Holyman Pinot Noir from the Tamar Valley. Joe Holyman has certainly arrived as one of Tasmania's outstanding pinot noir makers." Nick Stock "I'd argue this comes from one of the best Pinot sites in the country, from one of the best Pinot winemakers." Gary Walsh "Wow! Is the word my palate sent to my brain when I sniffed & sipped this big fella. Fermented with wild yeast and 30% whole bunches, cold macerated for about a week to extract colour and tannins - this is a wine to cellar for later excess enjoyment." Duncan Wilcox
