The original owner of the Rabbit Ranch – Mr McGregor tried a number of measures to rid the land of the rabbits at the turn of the century, but was unsuccessful. In the end he decided to plant some vines and make wine.
The vineyard fell into decline after the second world war until direct descendants of Mr McGregor – Warren and Betty McGregor decided to replant the vineyard and as they say – the rest is history...
Rabbits still run wild on the vineyard and fuelled by high altitude Pinot grapes, some are reputed to be the size of ponies – but that could be another tall story.
Welcome to Rabbit Ranch Head-quarters where the rabbits run wild, and so does the pinot! Here is where Warren McGregor and his team of bunnies spend the long summer’s days looking after the vines, checking on those grapes until they are juicy and ripe. And when they are ready it is “Go Team”!
Powered by Pinot Noir, these guys don’t sleep for 6 weeks, working like bunnies! Pressin ‘n’ plungin those grapes in the vats, fermentin ‘n’ blendin that delicious grape juice, until they have drunk a few glasses of what they think… will be a spectacular vintage!
