Paul Jaboulet

For nearly two centuries, the Paul Jaboulet Aîné house has been synonymous with excellence in winemaking, rooted in a deep respect for the land. Founded in 1834 on the iconic l’Hermitage hill in Tain l’Hermitage, France, the house has been passed down through two families, each dedicated to preserving and working the terroir. From its humble beginnings under Antoine Jaboulet in 1834, the business flourished under the leadership of his sons, Paul and Henry, and their descendants. It was Louis Jaboulet, however, who truly cemented the house's legacy as a pioneering and inquisitive producer, making 42 harvests and producing several legendary vintages. Under the guidance of Gérard Jaboulet, the house expanded its reach worldwide, solidifying its position as one of the most esteemed producers in the northern Rhone valley. In 2006, Caroline Frey took over the reins and initiated the transition to organic and biodynamic farming, further committing to sustainable viticulture. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, with praise from The Wine Advocate for the extraordinary quality of wines produced in 2009 and 2010. In 2017, Caroline received the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite for her dedication to organic viticulture and environmental preservation. Today, the house continues to push boundaries, receiving the Amorim Biodiversity Award at the Drinks Business Green Awards 2021 and achieving organic certification in 2016. With the recent creation of Domaine de La Chapelle, bringing together the iconic La Chapelle and Le Chevalier de Sterimberg cuvées, the legacy of Paul Jaboulet Aîné lives on, rooted in a long tradition and continuity of preserving and working the land.
