Nestled in the heart of the renowned Côte de Nuits wine region in France, Mugneret Gibourg has been producing exceptional wines for generations. The domain's name is a combination of "meunier," a regional form of "mugnier," and "Gibourg," originating from a family of grain farmers in the Saône plain. This fusion of two families with a deep-rooted connection to the land and a passion for winemaking has resulted in a truly exceptional estate.
In 1930, the family settled in Vosne-Romanée, and today, the domain is managed by the third generation, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée. Their shared dedication and love for the vine and wine have been passed down from their grandparents, Jeanne and André Mugneret, who founded the domain in 1933. Under their stewardship, the estate has flourished, producing Bourgogne Rouge, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Echezeaux Grand Cru wines.
Despite his successful career as an opthamologist, Georges Mugneret chose to follow in his family's winemaking footsteps, acquiring new plots and expanding the domain's vineyards. His untimely death in 1988 led to his wife Jacqueline, a former school teacher, bravely taking over the activity with their two daughters. Today, the two sisters continue to lead the domain, ensuring its legacy as a family-owned and operated estate.
In 2009, the domain merged with Georges Mugneret, creating Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. Jacqueline retired that same year, passing on the reins to her daughters. Now, the family pattern continues, with each sister having two daughters who have joined the domain, carrying on the legacy of their ancestors. The estate also boasts a charming guesthouse, La Maison de Jacqueline, run by one of the sisters' younger sisters.
Mugneret Gibourg's wines are a testament to the family's unwavering commitment to the land and their craft. With each sip, one can taste the rich history and passion that has been passed down from generation to generation. A visit to this family-owned estate is not just a tasting experience but a journey through time and tradition, a true celebration of the French winemaking heritage.
