L'Aventure

With a passion for winemaking instilled in him from a young age, Stephan Asseo's journey to become one of the most renowned producers in the United States started with his education at L'Ecole Oenologique de Macon in Burgundy, France. Armed with his knowledge and skills, Stephan established Domaine de Courteillac in Bordeaux in 1982, where he honed his craft and earned a reputation as a maverick vigneron. But Stephan's true desire lay beyond the boundaries of AOC law. He longed for more creativity and freedom in his winemaking, and in 1998, the Asseo family left Bordeaux in search of a new home. After scouring the world's great wine regions, they fell in love with the unique terroir of west side Paso Robles, and L'Aventure was born. Stephan's winemaking philosophy is rooted in a production-driven approach, placing a strong emphasis on showcasing the vintage and terroir of Paso Robles in each bottle. This commitment to authenticity and balance is reflected in our wines, which are carefully crafted by blending our estate's premium varieties. At L'Aventure, family is at the heart of everything we do. In 2013, Stephan's daughter, Chloé, joined the family business, much to the joy of her parents. Since then, she has taken on a pivotal role in managing the entire operation. Our family extends beyond just the Asseo clan, as we also consider our partners, the Thiénot family, and our dedicated team as integral parts of the L'Aventure family.
