Domaine de l'If

Nestled in the renowned St-Emilion region of France, Domaine de l'If stands as a testament to the passion and dedication of its owner, Jacques Thienpont. As the proprietor of the esteemed Pomerol estate, Le Pin, Thienpont recognized the potential of this picturesque vineyard and acquired it in 2010. Situated on the St-Emilion plateau with a picturesque view of the village and in close proximity to Troplong-Mondot, Château L’If boasts a prime location for producing exceptional wines. Originally known as Château La Bouygue, Thienpont made the bold decision to rename the estate in line with his renowned Pomerol property; Le Pin, meaning 'pine tree', was translated to 'l'If', meaning 'yew tree'. This symbolic change reflects Thienpont's commitment to creating a unique and distinctive wine that stands apart from the rest. With meticulous attention to detail, Thienpont has carefully mapped out the 8 hectares of the estate, with a focus on reducing the amount of Cabernet planted. In fact, a significant portion of the vineyard has been uprooted and replanted to ensure the highest quality grapes are used in production. Each parcel is treated individually in both the vineyard and the winery, allowing for a truly artisanal approach to winemaking. With a limited annual production, Domaine de l'If is a highly sought-after wine, eagerly anticipated by wine enthusiasts around the world. Backed by the expertise and reputation of Thienpont, this estate is poised to follow in the footsteps of its Pomerol siblings, becoming a prized and coveted addition to any wine collection.
