Located in the picturesque village of Côtes de Castillon in Bordeaux, France, Domaine de l'Aurage is a shining example of the Mitjavile family's winemaking legacy. Established in 2007 by Louis Mitjavile, son of the renowned François Mitjavile of Tertre Rotebeouf and Roc de Cambes fame, this estate is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines that elevate the Côtes de Castillon appellation.
Nicknamed "Loulou", Louis grew up learning the art of winemaking from his father and honed his skills by consulting for prestigious wineries in Bordeaux, the Languedoc, Spain, Argentina, and the United States. With a desire to create his own unique wines, he carefully selected a property in Bordeaux with similar terroir to Tertre Rotebeouf, including its prized clay-limestone soil.
The estate is currently planted with 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, with plans to transition to a full Merlot planting in the future. The meticulous work in the vineyard focuses on achieving a delicate balance during the winter and spring, allowing the vines to reach their full potential by harvest time. In the cellars, temperature control has recently been introduced to ensure the highest quality wines.
Vinification takes place primarily in new French oak barrels from the esteemed Radoux cooperage, with a small amount of concrete also used. The result is a wine that is as unique as its creator, with an intense, ripe, and rich character, perfectly balanced to showcase the true potential of the grapes.
At Domaine de l'Aurage, the Mitjavile family's passion for winemaking is evident in every bottle. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Bordeaux and experience the exceptional wines of Domaine de l'Aurage for yourself.
