De Montille

A story unlike any other, the tale of Domaine de Montille takes us on a journey through time. A journey that begins in the 17th century, in the picturesque village of Créancey, where the Lords of Commeau first laid down roots. Fast forward to the 1860s, and we see the estate flourish under the leadership of Étienne Joseph Marie Léonce Bizouard de Montille, who married Marie Eléonore Chauvelot de Chevannes and renamed the property to Domaine de Montille. But as with any great story, there were challenges along the way. The devastation of phylloxera in the 19th century forced the family to part with some of their prized vineyards. However, it was in the 1950s that the estate truly faced its greatest hurdle. With only 3 hectares remaining, mainly in Volnay, it seemed as though Domaine de Montille's glory days were over. But one family's determination and unwavering belief in the mosaic of Burgundy's terroirs changed the course of fate. Hubert de Montille and his son, Etienne de Montille, poured their hearts and souls into the reconstruction and expansion of the estate, plot by plot. Today, the Domaine boasts vineyards in some of the most prestigious appellations, such as Musigny, Bonnes Mares, and Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses. A clever blend of tradition, audacity, and modernity, Domaine de Montille is a testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the de Montille family. Their story continues to evolve, with the new generation now taking the reins and carrying on the legacy of crafting exceptional Burgundy wines.
