Peter, the son of Dr. Herold Binderer who founded the esteemed company Binderer St. Ursula in 1951, carries on the family legacy with utmost pride. In the mid-90s, after the fall of the “Iron Curtain”, Peter saw an opportunity to expand his family's business and purchased a winery in the north and built another in the south of Hungary. He was aware of the country's rich tradition and potential for producing exceptional wines, and he was determined to showcase this to the world.
Together with Lazlo Károlyi, a Hungarian aristocrat with a fascinating life story, Peter created their first white wine in 1998. Lazlo's love for the Grüner Veltliner grape, an important white wine variety, inspired the name for the brand. Count Karolyi wines are a true testament to the varietal's character, with its refreshing lemony aromas and a spicy, peppery touch that is typical of Gruner from Pannon, the sun-drenched region in southwest Hungary where the vines are cultivated.
