Chateau Nairac, situated in the charming Barsac region of France, is a producer that exudes both excellence and tradition. Owned by Nicole Heeter-Tari and her children, the estate boasts 17 hectares of vines, predominantly planted with 90% Semillon, 6% Sauvignon Blanc, and 4% Muscadelle. This family-owned and operated estate has been dedicated to crafting exceptional wines for decades, with Mme Nicole Tari-Heeter's son, Nicolas Tari-Heeter, taking over winemaking duties in 1993 until 2021.
In recent years, Nairac has faced challenges with frost damage affecting their vineyard and wine cellar. However, in March 2022, the Helfrich family from Alsace, through their company Terres de Bordelaises, stepped in as a wealthy investor to revitalize the estate. With their expertise and experience in the wine industry, the Helfrich family has signed a long-term farming contract to manage, modernize, and distribute Nairac wines.
The Nairac wines are known for their unique character and heavy profile, which evolves slowly and requires 4-5 years in the bottle to reach its full potential. The 2022 vintage, with the estate managed by Jean-Marc Dulong from Terres Bordelaises, is a testament to the estate's potential, receiving a score of 94+ points. The 2015 vintage also impressed with its intense acacia honey and walnut flavors, elegant finesse, and persistent finish, receiving a score of 94 points.
While some vintages were affected by frost, others, such as the 2010 vintage, have been hailed as exceptional. With consistent notes from eight tastings and a score of 96 points, this wine offers a range of botrytised flavors, a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, and a silky texture that lingers on the palate.
Chateau Nairac is a producer that has withstood challenges and continues to produce exceptional wines, thanks to its dedication to tradition, family, and now, the support of the Helfrich family. Nairac is a name that evokes quality, elegance, and excellence, making it a must-try for any wine enthusiast.
