Château Moulin de La Rose, a renowned producer of fine wines, has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century. Originally established by Guy Delon in 1971, the estate has since gained a reputation as a top producer of Saint Julien Cru Bourgeois wines. Aptly nicknamed the “Lilliput of Saint-Julien” due to its small vineyard, this charming estate takes its name from the presence of an ancient mill on the property and its supposed connection to the neighboring Grand Cru, Chevalier Larose.
Situated in the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, Château Moulin de La Rose boasts a modest 5-hectare vineyard, making it the smallest in the region. The vineyard is planted on gravel soils, characteristic of the Saint-Julien appellation, which impart a unique and distinct terroir to the wine. The care and attention given to the vines is evident in the final product, as the winemakers carefully tend to the grapes, pruning them short and planting them at a high density. The grape varieties used in the production of their wines are Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) and Merlot (35%), both of which are representative of the Bordeaux region.
In the winery, 5 stainless steel vats are used to carefully vinify each vintage of Moulin de la Rose, ensuring the temperature is meticulously controlled. The wine is then aged in traditional French oak barrels for a period of 20 months, allowing the true character of the terroir to shine through in every bottle.
Château Moulin de La Rose takes great pride in the homogeneity of its soil and its approach to showcasing the unique terroir in each and every wine. As a result, their wines are a true reflection of the renowned Saint-Julien appellation – full-bodied, tannic, and yet retaining a delicate and elegant finesse. When you indulge in a glass of Château Moulin de La Rose, you are experiencing the true essence of Saint-Julien – a true treat for the senses.
