Welcome to Chateau Larrivaux, a renowned producer located in the picturesque commune of Cissac Médoc in the HAUT MEDOC appellation. Our estate is situated at the gateway to the prestigious Saint Estèphe appellation, surrounded by three islands of lush vineyards.
Spanning an impressive 19 hectares, our vineyard boasts a diverse terrain with two islands resting on gravelly soils enriched with deep clays, while the third island is nestled on clay-limestone soil. This unique terroir plays a crucial role in the quality of our wines, allowing for optimal water retention during rainy periods and providing essential nourishment to the roots during dry spells. As a result, our grapes are able to thrive without experiencing water stress, ensuring the production of exceptional wines.
At Chateau Larrivaux, we have carefully selected the grape varieties that best complement our terroir. Currently, our estate is home to 59% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. While Merlot may be atypical for the Médoc region, the unique characteristics of our terroir have deemed it the perfect fit. Merlot brings a delightful suppleness and roundness to our wines, while Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and fruitiness, Cabernet Franc offers elegance, and Petit Verdot contributes tannins and color.
Our wines are expertly crafted using a blend of these varietals, with each one playing a vital role in achieving the perfect balance. The percentage of each grape may vary depending on the vintage, as the climate can favor one over the other.
