Château Ferrière

Located in the heart of the prestigious Margaux vineyards in France, Château Ferriere stands as a testament to centuries of dedication and passion for winemaking. Its story began in the late 17th century when Mister Gabriel Ferriere, a renowned ship-broker, acquired the estate and gave it his family name. The Ferriere family, known for their work as royal brokers for Louis XV, shared a common goal: to produce a great wine for their esteemed receptions. And they did just that, with Château Ferriere eventually earning the prestigious title of a third Classified Growth. After almost 300 years in the Ferriere family, Château Ferriere was passed on to the Merlaut family in the late 1980s. Bernadette Merlaut-Villars, a dedicated owner, took it upon herself to restore the château to its former glory. Tragically, she passed away, leaving her daughter Claire to take over the reins at just 25 years old. With a strong vision and a passion for innovation, Claire embraced biodynamic agriculture and became a pioneer of this method in the Médoc region. Today, Château Ferriere continues to inspire and lead the way in biodynamic winemaking. Claire's daughter, Jeanne, will one day inherit the estate and continue the legacy of producing exceptional wines from a perfectly healthy vineyard. The estate's dedication to sustainable and organic practices has earned it the Médoc branch of the Mouvement de l’Agriculture BioDynamique (MABD) and has inspired others in the region to follow suit. With a commitment to preserving the land and producing high-quality wines, Château Ferriere remains a shining example of the best that France has to offer in the world of winemaking.
