Bodegas Esmeralda

Founded more than half a century ago by Don Juan Fernández, the name is due to his daughter, the only female among four siblings, Esmeralda Fernández. Located in the department of Junín , one of the most traditional wine-growing areas in Mendoza and one of the main establishments producing and exporting high-quality wines in the country. It is an icon of the Argentine wine industry due to its modernization, its organized work, the incessant growth it experiences in volumes and its sustained quality. Bodegas Esmeralda was equipped with the most advanced technology and machinery, including stainless steel tanks, pneumatic presses and new mills and pumping systems. In addition, an ambitious oak barrel program was implemented, acquiring barrels year after year from the most prestigious cooperages in France and the United States. Winemaking at Bodegas Esmeralda was also influenced by the participation of foreign oenologists and experts, who offered their consulting services and continue to do so today to improve the quality of the wines produced at the winery year after year. The winery has a central establishment and four satellite wineries in operation, where the different blends of wine are produced. All the wines from these satellite wineries are transported to the winery in Junín to be packaged and shipped, which involves a significant amount of coordination and logistics work. The team at Bodegas Esmeralda researches the different microclimates in Mendoza to locate the most optimal areas for planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Malbec. Innovative bunch thinning techniques and harvesting methods are implemented to improve fruit concentration. By carefully controlling the water stress of each vineyard during its growth cycle, great improvements in the quality and concentration of the fruit are achieved.
