The 2024 Samuel's Collection Barossa Grenache Rosé looks like rosé, smells like rosé and tastes like rosé. Full of red berry flavor, sleek phenolics and plenty of chewy texture on the mid-palate to add an extra dimension of complexity. A really lovely wine, this is compelling summer drinking. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

“Enjoy with potato and rosemary pizza or tomato and basil bruschetta.”  says the tasting note, which I managed to find on Dropbox, from the email Yalumba sent out with the samples. Well, I’ll be knocking up a Puttanesca tonight, with some fine Cantabrian anchovies, Dom Torzi’s kalamata olives, a few salted capers, with a dash of the insanely good Muraca spicy hot cream peppers (explosive flavour!), and likely I’ll add a dash of this wine to my sauce. Fluffy Hair Adair has taken my bottle of Coriole Piquepoul, which would have been ideal for that. Oh well. Strawberry, raspberry, a musky and floral perfume. It’s quite juicy, lots of sweet strawberry and peaches in fruity juice, a little blood orange tang to acidity, light peppery grip, with a lively finish of solid length. There’s also something of a peanut richness to it too. It’s a good rosé, nothing to lift it above the ruck, as such, but it’s well made and drinks just fine.
