Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
You can have a crack at shiraz and semillon in the Hunter, and most will, and of course they work well, but you can also come second place a lot, or get lost in the hubbub, so I admire the bold strikes of alternative thinking around varieties that The Little Wine Company has made their calling card.
This feels spot on as a seaside white. Saline minerality underpins crisp, green apple with a good dose of lime juice, a touch of green herb, a lick of fennel and, curiously, white strawberry. It’s easy drinking, it doesn’t require much thinking, it goes dry, a little savoury, refreshing, and then some. Chill to the bone and GPS locate a bucket of prawns.
