Delicate and restrained aromas of cherries, dried strawberries and citrus peel. The palate is light-bodied with finely integrated tannins and a plush and juicy mouthfeel. An early-drinking wine with real purity.

The use of whole bunches is almost de rigueur among Pinot Noir makers these days. However, it is the precise quantity that is the question. For the Massale, the winemaker chose to include 12% whole bunches in the fermentation in stainless steel and concrete vats. In a cool vintage like 2024, it’s a well-judged amount and it lends an extra fragrant lift to the bouquet with crushed green herbs, leaf and rosehip set amongst lively black cherry, cranberry and sour cherry. It’s quite a fresh and unevolved Pinot with tart red berries and herbals to the fore and tannins pronounced through to the finish.

A year on, and the same thing I said HERE is still true! This is from Tuerong and Balnarring. 12% new oak. And while I’m enjoying doing the HERE (not here), HERE is a list of all the Massale reviews to date.
Strawberry, raspberry, sappy and spicy things, some red capsicum, mint and dried flower perfume. It’s bright, sappy, red fruited, a dusty and pumice stone feel to tannin, a cranberry sourness, with a frisky finish of good length. Good to drink. I like it.
Jane Faulkner - Halliday Wine Companion
Attractive aromas, somewhat floral, spicy with a little stemmy, sappy note – green edged for sure. Definitely not a fruit-driven style; you have to look hard for any fruit flavour —just a hint of black cherries, mostly chinotto and bitter herbs. Puckering acidity and firm tannins to close.
