Tom Kline - Winepilot
Hats off to Howard Park for producing a Pinot Noir of substance, finesse, and charm at such a modest price point. Bright red fruits lead the way – wild strawberry, Bing cherry, and raspberry coulis – before unfolding into notes of nutmeg, tilled earth, and red rose, the latter eventually taking centre stage. Beneath that lies a substratum of red liquorice and earthy beetroot, adding depth and interest, while air reveals a mineral finesse through the core. Altogether, it’s an aromatic profile that punches well above its weight. The palate has a good bite of intensity within a delicate Pinot frame. Dark cherry, cranberry skin, earth, raspberry, and nutmeg are wrapped in a sheath of fine but firm chalky tannins, drawing the wine to an impressively long finish. When it comes to quality for price, this is right up there.

Medium-bodied Pinot from this excellent year showing depth and fruit concentration, a result of this hot vintage. Bursts with a punchy hit of cherry and spice with a red raspberry-like character on the nose. The palate is structured with chalky tannins while understated oak feeds in harmoniously over a nice savoury finish.

Mike Bennie - Halliday Wine Companion
A sleek and spicy pinot noir with good savoury detail amongst the clarity of raspberry, red cherry and cranberry fruitiness. It sits even and lighter weight on the palate, shaped gently with streaks of dusty tannin. Finishes cool and fresh with mint and blood orange notes. It feels a little tight and strict now, but will mellow well and into more complexity.

Cassandra Charlick - Winepilot
Bright and a slightly lighter-toned Pinot Noir on the nose, yet with a firmly mid-bodied palate. It’s a little quiet on opening, give it a good splash to wake things up. Savoury led, there’s sour cherry and bright poppy redcurrant tip, with plenty of lightly spiced cumin and brambles. There’s a real ferrous, fresh blood note on the nose and a minerality that drives from start to finish. On the next wave, purple fruit and a little barnyard muddiness. The palate is chocolatey and deep in flavour. Good intensity and succulent length. Tannins are plentiful and somewhere between chalky and wider-grained in structure. Still on the simpler side of Pinot on the nose, but the palate has waves of flavour and freshness that jostle for the spotlight. A savoury finish of rosella and spiced chutney makes you reach for more. A cracking Pinot for the price.

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front
This wine is polished to within an inch of its life, in a good way. It tastes like a true professional. Berried fruit, ripe but not overdone. Spice notes, tucked in nicely. A floral infusion. And while it feels as though there’s oak in play, it’s been seamlessly applied. It’s not overtly varietal but nor is it a dry red style. It’s just a good light-to-medium-weight red, well fruited, well styled, that is above-pleasant to drink.
