This is magnificent, showing dark plum, dried mushroom, warm spice, floral and cedar characters on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that's filled with impressive fruit richness with velvety texture and finely pitched tannins. Mouthfilling and gratifying with opulence as well as poise and structure.

With dark cherry, redcurrant and raspberry pip aromas, the 2022 Bannockburn shows detail and freshness with an airy sense of space and plenty of light flowing in. There's some nice spice and light amaro tones (hello 32% whole bunch) along with hints of dried herbs, pressed wildflowers and crushed schist. I really enjoyed the clarity in this wine. Its travel is long and true, everything weighted just so, and it has a minerally cadence that pumps the beat along beautifully.

On the nose, this 2022 Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir is savory and spicy. There is clove and sumac, pastrami and raspberry pip, with black tea, tobacco and brine. This is a lovely wine. There's loads of freshness and density and yet capaciousness. It has an "open-throated" finish, loose-weave without being slack. 2022 was the 25th anniversary of Valli, and Grant says, "We really picked the eyes out for our 25th anniversary year." 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Bannockburn Vineyard is textbook stuff. It is a textured and supple wine with mouthcoating, chocolatey tannins. Beautiful plum and cherry skin flavors sit alongside licorice, woody herbs and a whiff of a reductive, smoky, flinty note. The 2022 is hugely appealing and easy to enjoy from release but not as texturally complex as recent vintages.
