Product Highlights

We're declaring it now - Mencia is on its way to becoming the next big thing in the wine world! This grape variety produces delightfully fragrant red wines that are light yet utterly captivating. Perfect for cooling in the fridge, these wines are your go-to choice for enjoying on a sunny summer day.

The story of the Peique family unfolds in Valtuille de Abajo, a quaint village nestled in the Bierzo region of León, home to fewer than 200 inhabitants. Today, they cultivate 40 hectares of vineyards, with Mencía taking center stage. This grape represents 98% of their red wine production, sourced from vines aged between 45 and 55 years.

Harvesting is done by hand, ensuring that once the grapes reach the winery, they undergo a gentle pre-fermentation soak for 3-5 days at cool temperatures. The magic happens in stainless steel vats, where the grapes macerate and ferment, capturing the essence of Mencía. After fermentation, the wine spends two months resting on its fine lees, gaining complexity and depth before it's finally bottled.

Decanter Magazine praises Mencia, particularly from Peique, as a must-have for its unparalleled freshness. This young, unoaked wine stands out for its vibrancy and charm.

Peique's Mencia is a thrilling and dynamic red, bursting with flavours of stewed strawberries and plums, enhanced by hints of oak spice and sarsaparilla. Delicate blue floral notes mingle with touches of menthol and eucalyptus, leading to a crisp and enticing finish marked by a refreshing acidity. It's a wine that truly dances on the palate, promising a memorable tasting experience.
