Offering sweet fruit intensity with savoury nuances, the inviting bouquet shows dark plum, cured meat, thyme, clove and roasted nut aromas. The palate displays rich fruit flavours with generously textured mouthfeel, finishing long and velvety.

There’s something inherently nutty about this wine that saw only old oak. Truffles, violets and sweet herbs. The tannins are of hazelnut husk, the mouthfeel of salty coconut flakes and a strong iodine line with the finish of ripe but sour black cherries. The palate provides a nice balance to the sweet-edged bouquet and because it’s so savoury and salty, it’s ultimately mouthwateringly delicious.

While nero is no match for grenache's protean nature, much of it profound, this is most recently the best wine at this address. Full-weighted, pulpy and with no dearth of freshness. A joyous glass of wine, laced with lilac, musk, purple pastille and dried herb, the sweetness clotted across the sassy finish. Best, with a chill.

Marcus Ellis - Halliday Wine Companion
Nero d'Avola is so often buoyantly juicy, and that can work, but it’s nice to see iterations where the fruit is expressed in a more savoury light. This captures that well. Sure, there are still some bright-fruited black cherry and raspberry notes, but there’s a crusting of spice, an earthiness, some anise, and a lack of overt fruit sweetness, with a dry tannic draw further refining the finish. It works well.
