Brooding aromas of blackberry compote, blood plums, baking spices and mocha. The palate is full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and a creamy, powerful mouthfeel. A very bold yet refined old-school shiraz.

Lyndoch, Penrice, Tanunda, Moppa North, Flaxman Valley, Vine Vale and Light Pass. Average age of vines is 83+ years. I tasted this alongside the 2021, and I like this better. Again, not my thing, though more my thing than the 2021!
Black fruit, liquorice, baking spices, toasty oak, even some perfume. It’s full-bodied, black fruits, again that juicy liquorice character, balanced acidity though leaning towards a gentle tang, dense tightly-knit tannin, some tobacco and earthiness, closing with a finish of excellent length. Has depth and impact, though doesn’t lurch into the clumsy zone. Very good.

I'm liking the recent releases of the Orphan Bank. They are less percussive ... crunchier and juicier in their fruit profile. Still with classic plummy, black-fruited goodness with layers of spice and an earthy resonance that could be nothing else but Barossan. The tannin architecture is fine and sandy, its acidity bright and fresh and the oak nestles into the fruit nicely with a slow fade.
