Sam Kim - Wine Orbit
This is immediately appealing on the nose with black/blueberry, violet, star anise, pepper spice and roasted nut aromas. The palate displays rich fruit intensity with plump mouthfeel, well supported by layers of fine-grained tannins. Brightly expressed and highly appealing.

Ray Jordan - Winepilot
Yes, you read it correctly, this is Shiraz with about 6% Riesling. It’s a little different, but of course there are plenty of examples using a dab of white fruit behind the ears of the red. Shiraz Viognier is the best known and Peter Lehmann back in the day used to work Shiraz with a little Muscadelle. Spicy cherry and plum with a slightly leafy character. The palate has a grainy chalky texture with a firm core of tannins and a light touch of oak. Vibrant and brilliant.

Marcus Ellis - Halliday Wine Companion
A blend of 94/6% shiraz/riesling. Matured mainly in older French oak barriques for 16 months. The inclusion of riesling here is no gimmick, but you’d be pushed to pick it. Presumably, it brings some levity and reinforces acidity. Indeed, there is a brightness of lift and a sprightly feel to the palate, which still trips through familiar territory – blue and black berries, bay laurel, olive, anise, turned earth and a hint of iodine – but it does so limberly. There’s a slippery rounding of texture across a more mid-weight feel – there’s that levity – with a finely tuneful chorus of tannins an assertive foil.
