Super-deep crimson in the glass with inviting aromas of macerated plum, blackberry, boysenberry and blueberry fruits. Hints of fruit cake spice, licorice, dark chocolate, turned earth, violets, olive tapenade, vanillin oak panforte and roasting meats. It's a classic Barossan style and one that St Hallett does very well, consistently dealing out great examples of what made the region famous across the world. Plush and endearing with superfine powdery tannins and a black-fruited finish that lingers nicely, showing abundant spice and meaty, earthy nuance. You can see why these wines are so well supported, especially so from a vintage as strong as 2021.

Coal, blackberry and black cherry to start. Nutmeg, earthy root vegetables, game meat, cut leather, cacao nib and smoke to follow along with some lovely graphite minerality bringing lift and class. Nice complexity and savoury/fruit mix aromatically. The palate is full bodied but lifted, with notes akin to the nose gliding through the mouth led by blackberry and black cherry again with coal, mocha and cacao nib notes in support. Bitter mocha-drenched tannins frame to a long finish. While this is dark fruited, there’s no descension into weightiness. There’s lift and balance, glide and motion. A lovely example of boldness and concentration kept elevated and poised. Nicely done.

Stuart Blackwell is one of the Barossa’s most popular winemakers and has been seen as the face of St Hallett for decades. This is a worthy tribute to him. The grapes here hail from the sub-regions of the northern Barossa, Ebenezer, Greenock and Moppa Hills. An opaque magenta, there is some oak evident here but it is masterfully handled. Rich, ripe and just delicious, the nose offers aromas swirling through cassis, blackberries, vanilla, cold tea, delicatessen meats, licorice and coffee grinds. The wine has fine acidity, impressive length and sleek tannins, though overall, is a savoury style. Enjoy this any time over the next twelve to fifteen years. Love it.

There is a lot to like here with generous waves of blackberry, Black Forest Cake and coconut-scented oak providing a strong start. A muscular frame follows with strong flavours and blocky tannins giving upfront impact supported by good overall balance and length. St Hallett fans will not be disappointed.
This full-bodied, deep and juicy red has aromas and flavors of black plums, cracked pepper, bitter chocolate and black tea. Touch of cedar. It’s attractively meaty (but not smoky) with ripe and broad tannins.

There's a brightness to the red and black berry fruit, underscored by pipe tobacco and cedar, with a coat of vanillin oak atop. A zing of tangy, raspberry acidity rises above powerful, chewy tannins. An old school classic lifted into modernity thanks to the acidity.
