Complex shiraz with herb, meat, woodsmoke and mint characters rippling through cherry and plum fruit flavours. It's cool and composed but flavoursome, too, with clove notes running out ahead of it all and excellent length to the finish. It's not the heaviest of Heathcote reds and it doesn't need to be; it has a whole lot else going on besides.

The 2021 Single Vineyard Shiraz provides pretty much everything we want from a Heathcote Shiraz, in that it conveys power without weight. It seems to mainline the Cambrian soil, and via that, it exudes a ferrous, bloody undertow of gentle gravely tannin. It is elegant and fine and very good with a lingering, spooling sort of finish. This has aniseed, rose petals, black cherry, black tea, goji berries and white pepper. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Full-bodied and distinctly reductive, with notes of flint and shotgun cartridge. Blows off with a workout in the glass, to reveal a slinky framework of tannins biding notes of green olive brine, red licorice, blue pastille and lilac. The end effect is one of a crunchy, sassy energy, parlaying a dangerous ease of drinkability. Nice wine.
