Tasting Notes

The baby wine of the estate expresses the young Garnatxa (Grenache) vineyards of the village of Bellmunt, in the south of Priorat. It is open and vibrant, light on the palate with a plethora of citric and peach sensations coupled with mineral notes and the refreshingly fine sweetness which sets Mas d’en Gil wines apart.

Product Highlights

Mas d’en Gil is Priorat through and through – steep, sun-soaked slopes, ancient licorella slate, and vines with roots tracing back to the 1860s. There’s real history in this land. And now, thanks to the Rovira family, these old vineyards are thriving again.

The result? Deep, powerful Garnacha-Carignan blends that sit comfortably among the world’s greats.

Think Rioja. Think Châteauneuf. Even Barolo – if you’re drawn to structure, dark fruit and savoury spice.

Priorat has quietly become one of Europe’s most compelling wine regions. Tucked away in Spain’s northeast, it’s one of only two regions in the country to carry DOCa status – the highest possible classification (Rioja is the other). But that’s just part of the story.

What makes Priorat special is the energy. The intensity. The soul. It’s warm, rugged country where Grenache rules, and where a new wave of winemakers are doing remarkable things – unearthing old vines, trying new ideas, and letting the land speak.

These wines carry the Vi de Finca seal, too – Spain’s rare classification for single-estate wines with long-standing excellence. It’s not given lightly. It means something.

And you can taste it in this 2020 Mas d'en Gill Bellmunt Priorat. There’s a scent that hits you first – violet, lavender, roasted herbs – and then it deepens into layers of blackberry, raspberry, and brandied cherry. There’s nutty oak, a touch of balsamic, and this electric, mineral energy from the licorella soils. The finish is long, silky, and laced with mocha and spice.
