Kerin O'Keefe - Wine Enthusiast
Aromas of fragrant purple flower, camphor, wild berry and oak-driven spice drive the nose. Full-bodied and concentrated but also endowed with an airy finesse, the firm, savory palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, crushed pomegranate, licorice and mocha. Tightly knit, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity provide structure and balance. Drink2026–2038.

Monica Larner - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The Paolo Scavino 2018 Barolo Monvigliero offers dried rose and smoky notes with crushed stone and peppery spice. This is a steady and careful production of 4,800 bottles, and the wine has a lean or compact mouthfeel and a special personality with rigid pinpoint aromas that rise tall from the glass.

Mike Bennie - The Wine Front
Monvigliero is one of Verduno’s northernmost vineyards. Paolo Scavino works around Barolo in varied places but this wine tends to be the one I gravitate towards.
Distinct with its clove and caraway seed spice scents and flavours, sinewy yet fine tannin, grippy, woody texture and general sense of coiled-up, pent-up tension. Very precise, compact red here, concentrated dark cherry fruit characters, some cola and sarsaparilla too. Minerally too. Sweet, almond and choc-hazlenut also in the mix. An architectural wine of great finesse and impact. Perhaps oak lends a bit too much of a hand, but you can see the star qualities.

Lovely, inviting nebbiolo nose with fresh and dried cherries, colored with pungent, sous-bois notes of dried roses and truffley mushrooms. Full-bodied, yet very tight and fresh with a solid tannin framework. Super-fresh and flavorful, but will this will need some time to soften a little. Solid wine for the vintage. Try from 2025.

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous
The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is such a classy wine. Bright floral and spice notes lead into a core of sweet red cherry fruit in a nervy, beautifully focused Barolo that delivers the goods. All the elements are so well balanced. There is a touch of classical austerity, and yet the Monvigliero has just enough mid-palate pliancy and sweetness to pull it off.
