Dark cherries with some blueberry and herbal notes on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm tannins. Savory with an inky note on the palate. Nice berry, dark-chocolate and hazelnut undertones. Flavorful finish with length. Second wine of Nenin. Try after 2023.

Gorgeous density and depth to this second wine from Nenin with wonderful purity and length. Medium-bodied, very tight and long with gorgeous fruit. Long and together.

The second wine of Château Nenin, this is already balanced. Tannins are fully integrated and the fruit bursts with structured energy. The wine has good medium-term potential and should be ready from 2025.

The 2018 Fugue de Nenin is composed of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, with 14.4% alcohol. Grapes were harvested September 13 to October 12, with yields of 33.8 hectoliter per hectare. The wine is to be aged in barriques, 25% new—the finished blend was put into barrels last December. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with gregarious black cherries, redcurrant jelly and warm plums scents with nuances of dark chocolate, cloves and anise. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers lovely rounded tannins and a lively line of freshness supporting the crunchy red and black fruits, finishing with an herbal lift.

A blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Fugue de Nenin came in at 14.4% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it has an exuberant nose of crushed black and red cherries, plums preserves and blueberry pie with hints of lavender, bouquet garni and tilled soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft, juicy and ready for business, featuring loads of blue and black fruit flavors and a lively skip in its step on the finish.

This has plenty of Pomerol character with accessible, flexible tannins and a beautifully vibrant edging – again with the pencil lead note that I get in the first wine but overtaken by bright fruits and smoked cedar notes. No need to wait too long to enjoy. 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc in the blend. 14.4%ABV. 3.6IPT.

The same crayon and pencil lead you find in the first wine of Nenin, with plush brushed tannins which place the wine in Pomerol, along with clear juice to the fruit. This is not exuberant, and there are notes of fig and fruits that push ripeness to the edge.

The 2018 Fugue de Nénin has come together since I tasted it en primeur. At the time, it showed more vegetal notes and harder edges. Happily, those issues seem to have resolved themselves. Today, the 2018 possesses lovely fleshiness and depth, with a firm spine of tannin that ensures at least a decade of fine drinking.
