Splendidly ripe and fragrant, showing blackberry, spiced cherry, olive, vanilla, and roasted nut aromas. It's succulent and plump in the mouth with juicy fruit flavours backed by loads of grainy tannins, finishing impressively long and sturdy.

Jack Estate are a relative newcomer to Coonawarra wine and own a relatively small vineyard planted 1962, though their first wines hit the scene in 2012. The focus is on cabernet sauvignon, of course, though some other wines from various varieties make their way to market too. The Mythology ranges draws a bow between ‘traditional Coonawarra winemaking’ and terroir of the region. Malty-cola oak over dark cherry/plum/forest berry fruit characters with a swirl of dark chocolate for good measure – a potent bouquet. The palate is lush, chewy with broad tannins, deep in concentration of dark fruits and lick of mint, flows well to a long, soft finish. Tickles the fancy for generous, ripe, bold wines, done pretty well here.

Jane Faulkner - Halliday Wine Companion

As there's merlot 8.5% and cabernet sauvignon 1.5%, all fruit is fermented separately, pressed to barrel for 18 months, then blended and spends another 22 months in oak. Seems a lot of oak and maturation. Underneath, there's dark fruit, brooding, fastened to anise, mint dark chocolate and cedar. Full-bodied with powerful tannins and drying. Maybe more time to amalgamate and reassess.
