In the 14th century, during their stay in Avignon, the popes built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area's exceptional “terroir”, they planted vineyards around the castle on terraces covered with smooth rounded pebbles (galets).
The Jaume family have been wine growers since 1826, however the Domaine Veneur, based in northern Châteauneuf-du-Pape, was created by Alain Jaume in 1978 when he first decided to bottle wines under his own label rather than sell fruit to negociants, and today is run by next generation: Christophe, Sébastien and Hélène Jaume.
From small beginnings the family now farms 145 hectares, with Domaine du Clos de Sixte and Domaine Grand Veneur being 100% Certified Organic EcoCert.
“Our aim, as skilled wine growers, is to produce, carefully and lovingly, wines that are intense, rich and complex and that reflect and embody the wonderful terroir of the southern Rhône Valley.
