Our vineyards and winery are located in Getaria, the cradle of txakoli wine. History and tradition, land and sea, txakoli and fishing live together in perfect harmony, and represent our essence and personality. For generations, Txomin Etxaniz, standing in the heart of Getaria, has continued to cultivate its dedication to growing vines and making txakoli.
On 60 hectares of trained vineyards on a hillside dropping down to the sea, we grow the Ondarrabi zuri and beltza varieties, the strains traditionally used to make txakoli wine. Harvested by hand in early October, a selection of grapes are processed by means of white vinification, pneumatic pressing in an inert atmosphere, fermentation at controlled temperature and maintenance-aging on lees.
From Domingo de Echaniz (1649) to today’s Txueka-Etxaniz family, our efforts have focussed on conserving the Ondarrabi variety, on creating the D.O. Getariako Txakolina (1989) and on the modernisation and innovation of our txakoli wines. All with a solid social commitment to the milieu and the environment, and to the land and our vineyards.
