Hailing from the historic Barolo village of Serralunga d'Alba in Italy, Luigi Vico is a producer who has deep roots in the world of viticulture. His family has been involved in winemaking since 1694, and their passion for the craft has been passed down through generations. However, it wasn't until Luigi himself took the reins that the family name finally appeared on a bottle of Barolo wine.
As a young boy, Luigi spent his summers helping his grandparents tend to their vineyards. He was captivated by the process of nurturing the vines and producing quality grapes. However, like many agricultural families, subsequent generations often leave the farm to seek other employment opportunities. For a while, it seemed as though the Vico family's ties to Serralunga were coming to an end.
But fate had other plans for Luigi. After establishing himself in Turin, he found himself longing for the days spent in the fields with his grandparents. And when the rental contracts on the family's vineyards expired, Luigi saw an opportunity to honour his family's legacy by reclaiming their land and producing his own Barolo wine.
To bring his vision to life, Luigi enlisted the help of renowned winemaker Davide Rosso from Azienda Agricola Giovanni Rosso. Together, they crafted their first vintage in 2016, a year that is considered a landmark for Barolo wines. With a promising beginning, it is evident that there is much more to come from this dynamic duo.
Luigi Vico's dedication and passion for his family's heritage have led to the creation of a truly exceptional Barolo wine. And with each bottle, he continues to honour his family's legacy, bringing their centuries-old tradition into the modern age.
