Freemark Abbey’s history begins in 1886 when Josephine Tychson, the first female vintner in California, built the original redwood cellar on which the estate sits. The winery is best known for crafting classically structured Cabernet Sauvignon from pedigreed sites, including the iconic Bosché and Sycamore vineyards. Freemark Abbey competed in “The Judgement of Paris” blind tasting in 1976 and was the only winery with both a red and a white wine represented.
