Domaine de Brin

Nestled in the heart of the historic Gaillac region in Southern France lies Domaine de Brin, a family-owned winery that is quickly establishing itself as one of the most exciting and innovative producers in the country. Led by the young and talented winemaker Damien Bonnet, this estate is breathing new life into the region with its revival of rare grape varieties and commitment to organic and biodynamic practices. In 2008, Damien took over the reins of his family's 10-hectare domaine and wasted no time in making significant changes. He gained organic certification and began experimenting with concrete and amphora to produce a natural style of wine, paying close attention to lunar calendars and biodynamic principles in the winemaking process. These bold moves were a departure from the traditional practices of selling to the local coop and polyculture, but Damien's deep understanding of the environment and his dedication to sustainability have paid off in producing exceptional wines. Situated on the 285-metre plateau on the right bank of the Tarn river, Domaine de Brin benefits from a unique microclimate influenced by both Mediterranean and Atlantic climates. The south-facing vines thrive in the calcareous and white clay soils, resulting in grapes with a perfect balance of ripeness and acidity. Damien's commitment to maintaining the health of his vineyards is evident in his use of natural weeding methods and organic fertilizers such as horse beans and oats. He aims for an equilibrium in the vines, allowing for a low yield of 20-35 hl/ha and producing grapes that are perfectly ripe and full of flavor. Each grape variety is carefully hand-harvested at its optimum maturation for the best quality wine. Domaine de Brin offers a range of unique and expressive wines, each showcasing the terroir and Damien's winemaking style. The Pierres Blanches white blend, aged in old barrels, delights with apple and hazelnut aromas and hints of sherry-like oxidation. La Vie en Rosé is a fragrant and luscious blend of strawberries, grapefruit, and lychee, with a velvety texture. The medium-bodied red Vendemia bursts with notes of blackcurrants and boasts crunchy tannins, while the Amphore cuvee, aged in amphora, offers a vibrant and spicy mix of red berries with a smooth finish. Domaine de Brin is truly a gem in the Gaillac region, producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir and the passion and dedication of its winemaker. With a commitment to tradition, sustainability, and innovation, this family-owned estate is paving the way for the future of French winemaking.
