Croix & Courbet, a dynamic partnership between two esteemed French winemakers, David Croix and Damien Courbet, has been making waves in the world of Burgundy and Jura wines. Croix, who made a name for himself as a young and talented winemaker at just 24 years old, brings a wealth of experience and a serious approach to winemaking. His friend and partner, Courbet, comes from a long line of winemakers and brings a deep understanding of terroir and an organic ethos to the table.
Their journey together began in Dijon, where they met while studying for their Diplôme National d’Oenologue. Despite taking different paths, the two remained close and their friendship eventually led to the creation of Croix & Courbet. Their passion for Jura wines and a mutual desire to work with impeccable, organically farmed grapes brought them together to create something truly special.
Their project in Jura is a true expression of their shared vision, with a focus on purity and tension in the wines. Instead of the traditional nutty notes often associated with Savagnin wines, Croix & Courbet's wines highlight the unique terroir and the grape's natural robustness. Using native yeasts and minimal sulfur, the wines are crafted with a meticulous artisanal approach in Nevy-sur-Seille, with both men overseeing harvest and vinification.
The result is a range of three distinct Savagnin ouillé (‘filled up’) wines, each showcasing a different blend and vineyard. From the Côtes du Jura blend to the single vineyard wines from Arbois and Château-Chalon, every bottle is a true reflection of Croix & Courbet's dedication to quality and terroir-driven winemaking.
Despite living just over an hour away from each other, Croix and Courbet have overcome the distance and logistical challenges to create something truly special. Their determination and shared vision have brought them together in a slow and steady journey, reminiscent of The Tortoise and the Hare fable. And with their wines now gaining recognition and acclaim, it's clear that their collaboration was worth the wait.
