Biondi-Santi Montepo

The Biondi Santi family is legendary in the history of Italian winemaking, with roots going back to the 1800s when Ferruccio Biondi Santi planted the first Montalcino vineyard with vines of a selected Sangiovese clone, called Sangiovese Grosso or Brunello. In the heart of Maremma, Jacopo Biondi Santi and his children are writing a new chapter in their family’s history of winemaking excellence. Nestled in the countryside of Scansano within the Biondi Santi family’s land of vineyards, olive groves and forests are their cellars of Maremma wines. The 50 hectares of vineyards grow three varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a unique and precious clone: Sangiovese Grosso BBS11. Here, on the estate of Castello di Montepò we find all the elements, in terms of altitude, soil composition, wind exposure and microclimate, needed to create a unique and distinctive terroir, the ideal environment to grow the Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone, exclusive property of the Biondi Santi family. Today the Biondi Santi family’s primary focus is the wines of Castello di Montepò, which include Sassoalloro, Schidione and JeT, a rosé wine made from the famous BB111 close of Sangiovese
