Ken Gargett - Winepilot

From a vineyard planted around 1985, neighbouring the famous railway line between Coonawarra and Penola, maturation was for almost two years in French oak, 30% new. For me, one of the stars of this year’s releases and certainly, hands down, the top value offering. Shades of opaque purple, this is still very young, though absolutely gorgeous. Approachable, with spicy notes, mulberries, cassis, blackberries, mint and tobacco leaves – a really impressive example of Coonawarra supported by firm and abundant tannins, impeccable balance and a fine lingering finish with the intensity maintained throughout. A stunning Coonawarra Cabernet which will drink beautifully over the next decade or two. Wines like this would make Jim very proud of what his family is achieving.

Sam Kim - Wine Orbit

Varietally pure and immediately enticing, the bouquet shows cassis, subtle tobacco, smoked game, toasted nut and rich floral notes on the nose, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate offering richly textured mouthfeel backed by fine grainy tannins. Robust and generous with loads of delectable flavours.

Ray Jordan - Winepilot

Bright red fruit of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon bursts out of the blocks. The red berry and high-end florals lift with a subtle cedary oak character. The palate is still quite tight as the influence of the 24 months in mostly French oak has an initial impact. Fine chalky tannins and neatly balanced oak complement the intense and concentrated fruit delivered with medium weight.
