Zesty Chardonnay from Ballarat, a region that deserves more acclaim, held back only by a lack of vineyards (though that is changing too).

This Chard balances rich flavours with crisp acidity, the result medium bodied and ready to go, the bottle age making for something even more complex and full flavoured.

Expert Reviews

95 Points - Jane Faulkner - Halliday's Wine CompanionThis wine is akin to concentric circles - the centre ripe stone fruit, dried figs, another all leesy flavours of grilled nuts and creamed honey, with the outer circle a layer of fine acidity drawing everything in. A richer style, luscious and so well done. Only 75 dozen.
93 Points - Toni Paterson MW - The Real ReviewThis is a thoroughly modern chardonnay, with layers of flavour and complexity. The palate has attractive mealy nuances, plus both richness and reserve, slowly unveiling and revealing the different levels. I adore the bright lemon curd and fresh apple flavours. Beautifully made, flavoursome and highly satisfying.

How's it taste?

Appearance: Pale straw yellow in colour. Nose: Complex aromas of citrus and stone fruit with light toasty notes. Palate:Time in French oak has created a plush, creamy palate that is both rich and mouth-filling. The zesty acid forms a balanced framework for the wine, which finishes with an elegant, long farewell

How was it made?

Premium Chardonnay from Ballarat produced in a hands-on Burgundian style.

Who made it?

Tomboy Hill is a tiny vineyard planted in 1984 within viewing distance (2 km north) of the Eureka Rebellion site. The vineyard is planted in the Burgundian mode, 1mx1.2m grid and low-trellised, and is still, by necessity, hand-pruned, hand-sprayed and hand-picked. Ballarat's climatic similarities with Burgundy influence the mode of viticulture and wine-making, with only chardonnay and pinot noir being grown.
