Angus Hughson

"Nice lemon, citrus aromatics and pleasant light fruit driven finish."

Angus Hughson

The roots of The Wine Collective date back to 1946 and the formation of The Wine Society. While we've changed over the years, some wines have been constants in our history - and great sparklings have featured heavily.

This Reserve Brut then is proudly a homage to the long history of great sparkling wines before it. A wine designed for immediacy, for celebration, for commiserations. A drink with a sense of fun, but made without compromise.

Made from Chardonnay grapes that are early picked for maximum vitality, with the wine then spending almost a year on lees to gain an extra layer.

That winemaking has delivered a wine that is every bit the aperitif, yet with more than just simplicity to keep you interested.

How's it taste?

Apple and citrus aromatics, the palate is soft but with resounding freshness, with a palate that is generous but never cloying.

How was it made?

Chardonnay fruit, picked early for freshness, then kept on lees for almost a year to gain more complexity.

Who made it?

Yarran Wines is a family-owned and operated winery located a short distance from Yenda in the NSW Riverina. Fruit has been grown on the family vineyard for 35 years, but it wasn't until the late 90s that the family started making wines, kicking off with a single Shiraz in 1998. Yarran now makes many different varietal table wines, rich fortified blends and also a classic Riverina Botrytis sweet wine style. Chief Winemaker, Sam Brewer, is always trying something a little less mainstream each year, aiming to overdeliver with quality and produce affordable wines with personality.
