We always like to start the weekend with a bottle of cooling Champagne although I often don’t write them up. Too busy. Last week’s effort was a Pol Roger white foil as it happens (and very nice too) but today a bottle from this slightly more obscure producer. Golden in colour with a complex nose – it’s a mix of mineral, smoke, creamed honey, bread and citrus mainly. Quite winey too if that makes sense. On the palate pretty dry but not without with richness and weight. It’s spicy, lightly honeyed but overall pretty minerally and savoury with a light smoky aspect. With its fine persistent bead, gentle foaming mousse and long dry finish it really hits the spot. A particularly good NV I think.
Champagne Henriot is exclusive in Australia to new liquor retailer bootleggers.com.au This is a good combination of flavour and elegance. It offers rich honey and brioche flavours with a cut of citrus and a long-ish, leesy, dry finish. Shape, flavour and length; not a bad combination. Gentle creaminess add a bit extra.
Yeasty and herbal, fresh grapy aromas, again fresh and youthful in the mouth, with discretion and balance. A hint of Vegemite. Soft, balanced, fine.
Toasty nose. Well-mannered with a creamy mousse, an impressive light texture, bready flavours and light mineral notes on the finish.
A touch of vanilla-laced pastry cream sweetness accents this fresh and focused Champagne, with a fine mousse. This is well-balanced by crunchy acidity and flavors of lemon peel, green pear and spring blossom. Drink now through 2022. 6,000 cases imported.
Bright white fruits and a fine balance between richness and crisp acidity are the hallmarks of the nonvintage Champagne from this producer. Perfumed and with delicious apple and peach fruits, the bottling is ready to drink.
