What a heroic case!
This Halliday's Heroes case is not only packed with top-rated wines, nothing less than 92 points from Halliday's Wine Companion, , but also includes a 96p Tyrrell's Shiraz.. And all for $99 a six pack!
Wines included in this case:
1x 2017 West Cape Howe Riesling:
“It's a quartz-like riesling with lemon zest and sorbet characters searing through the palate. Tension is the order of the day; it's like a wire strung tight. It works beautifully now for its mouthwatering qualities but even a little extra time in bottle will be beneficial.”
92 Points - Campbell Mattinson - Halliday's Wine Companion.
1x 2017 Cape Bernier Estate Tasmanian Chardonnay:
“Matured for 9 months in French oak. Has picked up colour very quickly, although it is bright; the balance of the fruit, oak and above all else, the acidity can be a problem with Tasmanian chardonnays when they run their own race - here it is integrated with white peach and melon fruit, which has a faintly honeyed finish. Attractive wine.”
93 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine Companion.
1x 2018 Norfolk Rise Pinot Grigio:
“Picked over 3 weeks, tank-fermented and matured. The flavours of apple, pear and citrus are as they should be, but it's the work with lees that gives the wine the mouthfeel to lift it out of the ruck.”
92 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine Companion.
1x 2015 Willunga 100 Cabernet Shiraz:
“The quintessential Australian blend, proving just how well cabernet can perform under a cooling maritime influence, even in the warmth of McLaren Vale. Black currant, dark cherry, plum and bay leaf-infused bouillon, offers little room for mistaking the baritone of the choir. Indeed, cabernet makes up 65% of the blend and its aromatic harmonies soar over the blue fruits and warmth of syrah, a soprano backing vocal.”
93 Points - Ned Goodwin - Halliday's Wine Companion.
1x 2016 Riposte The Sabre Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir:
“The bouquet is filled with blossom and spice, the palate moving through cherry and plum with nonchalant ease before balanced, savoury tannins (ex some whole bunches in the ferment) come on stream.”
94 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine Companion.
2017 Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Shiraz:
“A brother to the '18 Hunter Valley Semillon, crushed and destemmed, open-fermented, pressed to large-format used casks. This is a rich yet tightly managed wine, placing all the emphasis on fruit, precisely that which should be done, especially in a year such as this. If you buy it now - and you should - put not less than 50% in the cellar, and have a glass on me, recalling it only cost $25.”
96 Points - James Halliday - Halliday's Wine Companion.
