To think, this is a sub $20 wine! Crafted by James Halliday's 2018 Winemaker of the Year, Julian Langworthy, this is one of the best value Margaret River reds in the country, fully deserving of its gold medal too.

Expert Reviews

This cracking blend always hits the mark and this is right up there again. The combo of Cabernet and Shiraz works so well and this one shows beautiful sweet ripe fruit of medium to full body. A little dab of oak to complete. 91 points - Ray Jordan

How's it taste?

Ebony is a classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz that best reflects its origin – Margaret River. Medium bodied and fresh it's an approachable red yet one with flavour and depth too. More than just a BBQ red

How was it made?

Ebony is a classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz that best reflects its origin – Margaret River. The 2016 vintage was excellent. The wine is produced with early drinking in mind and exhibits fleshy tannins with great fruit intensity. A blend of estate-grown and premium growers’ fruit was used to produce the 2016 Ebony. A range of winemaking techniques was utilised, including open-top fermentation and pre-soaking.

Who made it?

Deep Woods Estate was founded in the northern end of the beautiful Margaret River region of W.A in 1987. It changed hands in 1992 when the Gould family purchased the winery, and was sold again in 2005. Today, it is part of the Fogarty Wine Group (they also own Lakes Folly, Millbrook and Smithbrook wines). The property nests on a ridge overlooking a sea of Jarrah and Marri trees, hence the name Deep Woods. It boasts 16 hectares of sustainably-managed, low-yielding vineyards segregated into 12 blocks planted to Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Winemaker Julian Langworthy employs traditional and state-of-the-art techniques to craft small batches of wines of impeccable quality under several different labels. The Deep Woods Reserve label is the ultra-premium range made entirely from estate-grown fruit. The Estate range brings beautiful varietal character and vibrancy while offering excellent value for money, whilst the Ebony, Ivory and Harmony label uses estate and locally sourced fruit. Stylistically they range from complex, zesty, nutty Chardonnays through to cassis and chocolate Cabernet Sauvignons displaying Margaret River typicity.

We don't seem to have the exact wine you are after.. However, here are some of my favourites that I think work for all occasions, be it a BBQ or a fancy dinner.
