How's it taste?

In this mixed dozen you will find two bottles of each of the below wines plus detailed tasting notes in each case.

How was it made?

2 x Penmara Cabernet Sauvingon

Penmara was created when five, well-established, family-owned vineyards joined together to take control over the way they were making and distributing wine. Located in the Hunter Valley with access to vineyards in Orange and the surrounding areas provides them with access to different climates and soil types. This enables them to produce quality wines of character with a unique sense of place.

2 x Bayliss Road Black Label GSM 2017
Bayliss Road is the second label of Vinrock Wines and is made exclusively for The Wine Society by winemaker Michael Fragos. The range is extremely popular with our members and it’s easy to see why; every year the wines are rich, concentrated and full-flavoured. The long warm dry autumn of the 2017 vintage in McLaren Vale meant the parcels of Grenache and Mataro were picked at optimum ripeness, which shines through in the final blend.

2 x Aylesbury Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Aylesbury Estate is named after the town of Aylesbury from which the Gibbs family hailed. The Gibbs family moved to the Ferguson Valley in 1883, over 140
years ago. The 22 acre vineyard is a part of a family owned farm that has been passed down through five generations. The vineyard was planted in 1998 by
Ryan Gibbs’ father. Ryan and his wife, Narelle, created the Aylesbury Estate wine label with the intention of capturing the best of the Ferguson Valley in a bottle, producing wines that are an expression of the pristine environment in which the fruit is grown.

2 x A.T. Richardson Ironstone Shiraz 2017
A.T. Richardson is known for making wines with intense flavours, structure and balance. Winemaker Adam Richardson has a knack for making wines that are approachable in their youth while also showing an ability to develop in the bottle. This delightful Shiraz is no exception.

2 x Kingston Estate Petit Verdot 2016
The winemaker at Kingston Estate, Bill Moularadellis, has earned a well-deserved reputation as an innovator of Petit Verdot. It was Bill’s foresight in the 1990s which led to Kingston Estate establishing the largest single planting of this classic European variety in the Southern Hemisphere. Bill’s pioneering legacy was instrumental in the Riverland earning its reputation as the signature growing region of Australian Petit Verdot. Petit Verdot is a variety uniquely suited to the Riverland’s extended hot and dry growing season, producing concentrated, ripe and very drinkable wines.

2 x Angus The Bull Wee Angus Merlot 2016
Angus the Bull is the brainchild of Hamish MacGowan, a young gun winemaker, who originally moved to Australia’s Northern Territory to muster cattle at remote stock camps. Hanging up his stockman boots, he began working for a small winery in Victoria, which formed the basis of his winemaking career and is why
he’s so fond of Central Victorian grapes. In 2003 Hamish started the Aberdeen Angus Wine Company with the sole aim of making amazing, full-bodied red
wines to partner with - you guessed it, beef!
