2022 Mystery Margaret River Chardonnay Deal No. 28
The Collective Review
Hold onto your glass because we've got something that'll make your taste buds and wallet feel good again - a Mystery Chardonnay with all the swagger of the big shots, but at a far cooler price.
This Chardonnay isn't just from any winery - it's from a 5-star Halliday-rated winery skyrocketing into the big leagues of WA's top-notch producers. With a vine-growing history dating back to the 1920s, this winery set up shop on the famous Caves Road in Wilyabrup. If you're tapped into the local scene, you'll know the name: for everyone else, picture prime, sun-drenched Marg's Chardonnay goodness in a bottle.
Word on the grapevine is that 2022 is a knockout Chardonnay vintage. And the critics? They're head over heels for this wine.
We wish we could spill the beans on the producer, but in a small town like this, a quick Google search might do the trick.
At the full $45, you'd be smiling. At this price, it's practically a steal. Your hunt for the best Margaret River Chardonnay deal ends here.
NIcely put together. Good balance, nice flavour and length. Amazing concentration. This is top notch. Read more
Critic Reviews

Lemon aspen, chalkboard dust, cracked white marble and pineapple core. Sweet, dribble down your cheeks ripe, white nectarine flesh and almond biscotti. This is Margs and this is beautiful! A sea spray saline quality draws you in and livens you up with toasty oak and persistent acidity. Vanilla and creamy zabaglione with the oak unfurling on the palate. Supported by weighty orchard fruit and an acid line to give focus. Drink with an old fashioned Peach Melba and don’t be shy about it. Sometimes the classics need to be revisited.

Fruit sourced from three sites, all hand picked and whole-bunch pressed. Wild fermentation eschewing mlf, but allowing texture via lees stirring and 40% new French oak. Matured in a mix of eight-month-old barriques and puncheons. It’s come together well, not overly complex but composed. Hints of stone fruit and citrus, spicy with the palate appearing soft, although there’s plenty of briny acidity.

NIcely put together. Good balance, nice flavour and length. Amazing concentration. This is top notch.

Fresher style for a chardonnay, but not lacking intensity, there is citrus, under ripe stone fruits, and a touch of tinned pineapple, the minerality of this wine is quite steely, and a nice creamy silky mouhtfeel with grilled almonds, hazelnuts and vanilla curd, continuing to a long, fresh finish

Tasting Notes
The palate is medium-full bodied with stone fruit, white blossom, and zesty citrus flavours with creamy nougat characters from lees influence. Dense oak sweetness adds to the richness and length on the palate. Fine saline acidity gives the wine depth and length, finishing with rich white blossom and chewy oak. A pure and pristine palate of Margaret River Chardonnay.
