All the 1880 Old Hill went into this wine in 2022. 20% new French oak. It’s labelled O.P. & O.H. again, though some years it was Old Paddock and Old Hill, which kind of makes the search function a bit of a nightmare, so I’ve added all the words. GW: Iodine, quite umami, porcini mushroom, dark fruit and liquorice, a little spicy biscuit and cedar oak in tow. Medium-bodied, dark fruit and spice, earth and dark chocolate, tannin has grip and fleshiness, a little rugged maybe, but sits well within the wine, and the finish is pretty deep and earthy, with some boysenberry freshness to close. Quite savoury, but kind of typical OP & OH in that way. 94 points KS: Concentrated aromas, raspberry coulis sweet core but with electric iron thread and acidity running on the sides, a bag of dried mushrooms moving into lightly toasted hazelnuts. Mouthfeel is of a juicy steak chew, with a bit of freshly ground coffee, slate-like minerality and fibrous tannin. Dried peppermint aftertaste with more steely sensation, plus black pepper spice on the gums. 94 points Rating: 94 Points Source: Gary Walsh and Kasia Sobiesiak, The Wine Front Read more

Tasting Notes

Sourced exclusively from the Mount Pleasant Old Paddock and Old Hill vineyards. This shiraz blend has been made since the mid 1960s, a true classic of the Hunter Valey using vines dating back to 1880. A structural and powerful rendition of the Hunter Valley's most revered variety. Perfumed with red and dark berries, coupled with spice. A palate of texture, sinewy tannins and exquisite length. Balanced and approcheable now, this wine will continue to mature for over 25 years.
