The name is derived from a centurion plot, the oldest pinot noir vineyard in Australia. While Hunter Valley is not the first place that springs to mind when it comes to this fickle variety, pinot was the cornerstone of many of its greatest wines, often blended with shiraz. Brambly bing cherry with a sinuous curb of edgy tannin, earthy and savory. Sappy, moreish length. The effete comparison, Cote de Beaune. I'd rather drink this than so many New World pinots. A dangerously easy bottle solo. Drink or hold. Screw cap. 93 points Read more

Kasia Sobiesiak - The Wine Front

Sweet cherry scents, Cherry Ripe whiff, cherry pith, cold brew coffee mouthfeel with more… cherries. Clove and orange tension, vibrancy, spice and shapely tannin, bouncy in the mouth, a bit nervy but lifted character, acidity punches with freshly crushed green peppercorns finish. 93 points

Tasting Notes

Australia’s oldest Pinot Noir vineyard, planted in 1921 by Maurice O’Shea. The vines from this block have given the Australian Wine Industry the famed MV6 clone which is now planted throughout the greatest Pinot Noir grape growing regions in Australia. Still producing today, these vines are carefully tended and provide wines of structure and power. Perfumed floral and red fruits combined with spice and leather. A soft luscious palate with bright fruits and structural long tannins. The Old Hill Pinot is a delight as a young fresh example and as history shows, will continue to develop and become more complex for the long term.
