2022 mesh Eden Valley Riesling
The product of a meeting of two riesling minds, Robert Hill-Smith of Yalumba and Clare Valley legend Jeffrey Grosset. Pale straw with aromas of freshly squeezed lime, juicy white peach and green apple with hints of Christmas lily, orange blossom, wet river stones and grapefruit pith. Tight focussed and pithy in texture with a wonderful line of vivid porcelain acidity and some serious velocity of the focused exit. Dave Brookes Published 02 August 2023 Read more

Effortless. Big love for the flow of this wine. It just cruises about with ease. Everything about this from the first swirl is about its soft presence. Soft scents of white flowers and lime zest. Soft feels through the mouth and soft fruit. There's a soft mouth perfume too. Then snap! The tension turns on a dime. Seizing up on the mid-palate, the acid is perky and energetic. That liveliness brings another level of class. Bone dry, a slatey minerally character rolls along. Make no mistake, this has massive pour me another glass factor. It will age superbly too. I had a glass of the Mesh 2012 a month ago and it was oozing freshness and showing those quality toast and honeyed tones that only time will bring. Rip into this now or tuck some away. You choose.

A fragrant nose of lime blossom and lemon pith mixes with wet pebble aromas. Its lithe framework is draped with flavour and vibrant fruit. It's a funnel of acidity and flavour. Bitter quince-like tannins on the finish add dimension and interest. This has a bright future. Gabrielle Ploy

Tasting Notes
Tasting Note The wine is green and vibrant in appearance, with zesty lemon and grapefruit aromas. The palate is intense and generous, with lively lime, citrus flavours. The wine finishes dry with refreshing, long acidity. As is the case with all great Eden Valley Rieslings, mesh will age gracefully into a mature wine.
Winemakers Note
Clare Valley’s Jeffrey Grosset and Eden Valley’s Robert Hill-Smith work together each vintage before taking their chosen grapes – Jeffrey’s in the blue buckets and Robert’s in the yellow - and parting ways to crush and ferment the fruit at different locations. Debate follows, as the juice is assessed and the final, final, final blend is agreed upon. Each component, nearly identical at the start, undergoes a different conversion into wine, reflecting the personal differences of both men.
