2022 By Farr Pinot Noir Farrside

As a recent Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year winner, Nick Farr’s reign at the helm of the By Farr dynasty is firmly established. By 2019, he had fully taken the reins, overseeing every detail of the viticulture and vinification processes – and the wines have flourished under his guidance.

The 2022 Farrside is an absolute knockout. It showcases its signature exotic spice and seductive aromas in a contemporary style, while the 2022 Sangreal is a true thoroughbred, brimming with woodsmoke, violets, and green bell pepper.

Yields were tight in '22, as Mother Nature unleashed her full force – rain, hail, frost, and a heatwave all threatened the season. Yet, the fruit that survived provided Nick Farr with a concentrated bounty of flavour and intensity. Much like his father, the legendary Gary Farr, Nick allows each season to express its personality in the wine – and the wild ride of 2022 is brilliantly captured in this release.

In our view, the 2022 Farrside is such an extraordinary wine that, if Geelong had a Grand Cru designation, it could hold its own against the likes of a Rousseau Chambertin or a Ponsot Clos de la Roche.

This Pinot Noir exudes a masculine structure, with savoury, meaty, spicy, and mineral notes that continue to evolve. A beautifully balanced array of red and black fruits keeps the wine fresh and edgy, bursting with character. It’s a firm yet delicate wine with a long, textured finish.
