Sourced from 2 blocks on a single vineyard. Deeply coloured, and matured for up to 12 months in new and used puncheons. Standard no-frills vinification, but this is a wine that is anything but standard. Its depth and breadth of dark berry fruits, licorice, spice and plum coat the palate with flavours that draw you back up repeatedly. Wonderful stuff: hail the vintage!

Why's this wine for you?

Zonte’s Footstep was mesmerised by the aroma, colour and flavour of this Malbec fruit, so much so they have made a theme of it. Pump, generous and juicy this is the vibrancy of Great Aussie fruit and the bounty of the Malbec variety all wrapped up in one.

Malbec sure is a special grape, it looks like blueberries hanging on the vine, has the prettiest pinkish hue in the glass and in the vat looks like fluorescent beetroot juice!

The Zonte's Footstep Violet Beauregard Malbec 2021 is a good portion of fruit sourced from the second oldest winery is Australia from the Bleasdale family in Langhorne Creek and a portion of their own old vine fruit in McLaren Vale.

The primary fruit is remarkable, blueberries pie baking in the oven, violets, mulberries and vanilla, the oak use is minimal and more of a supporting act. This is a wine that is jam packed with blue fruits bursting from the seams!

Zonte's Footstep has been described as "one of the best value wines in the Southern Hemisphere" according to UK wine writer Matthew Jukes.

How's it taste?
Blueberries, and when we say blue blueberries, we mean blueberries. Impressive vivid deep purple colour. Pungent and pronounced nose with strong varietal characters of blueberry, red plums, sweet vanilla and a hint of violet. The medium to full palate is concentrated and mouth filling with an abundance of primary blue fruits, black plums, cocoa powder with intriguing notes of roasted meat and Autumnal leaf. The finish lingers yet is soft and supple.
How was it made?
The fruit for the Violet Beauregard comes from two blocks on a single vineyard in the heart of the Langhorne Creek. Primary fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel vats and 5 tonne open fermenters after which the wine is assembled into tank and allowed to complete a natural malolactic fermentation before being pressed off. It is then transferred to new & well-seasoned puncheons and aged for up to 12 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration. This results in a wine with purity of fruit that is unpretentious and eminently satisfying to allow for regular indulgence.
