How's it taste?
This wine is expressive, with generous aromas of lemons and oranges followed up by beguiling meadow grass and wildflower perfume. Hints of Middle Eastern spices such as cumin and coriander add another layer of complexity. The palate has a finesse to it that suits the grassy meadow suggestions, as well as a green-apple crunch. It finishes with a dry, salty and mountain-water freshness that completes the wine.
How was it made?
2021 Scorpo Aubaine Chardonnay is grown on Paul Scorpo’s Stanleys Road vineyard. 50% of the wine is 76 clone, picked at 12.4 Baumé on 3rd March 2021. The other half of the blend is 95 clone picked the same day at 12.5 Baumé. The fruit was pressed as whole bunches and sent to barrel (10% new oak, the balance 3 to 6 years old). The wine did not undergo malolactic conversion or lees stirring. It was bottled on 1st December 2021.
